I have been determined to return to this lovely cathedral for a while after seeing it briefly last year, and managed to spend a couple of hours there, after purchasing a photography sticker. The time-consuming bit was taking multiple exposures at each spot. Combining these helped to deal with the difficult conditions of varied light. The cloisters , where even an ultra wide angle lens cannot get the whole field of view in one frame, needed 2 of these blended images to be combined into a single panorama. I was fortunate that Monday morning was quiet and did not have a trail of people walking down to the cafe.
I was pleased that my hard work on blending the exposures led to a first position in the colour section of the camera club’s “3 of a kind” competition with two versions of the cloisters from different viewpoints, and the lady chapel in central position. The cloisters image went on to achieve 29/30 in an inter club competition.
